Does the CSLB Allow Translators?

In cases where an applicant faces challenges comprehending or reading English, the CSLB may grant permission for a translator to assist during the examination. It is essential to obtain prior approval from the CSLB for the selected translator. To initiate the request for a translator, contractors must mark the relevant checkbox on the application form, and the CSLB will provide further instructions.

Contractors may take a license classification exam at any of the CSLB’s test centers located in:

  • Norwalk

  • Sacramento

  • San Diego

Exams are offered on weekdays only. 

What is the License Classification Exam Format?

Exams consist of multiple-choice questions and are taken on computers at the testing location. Upon completion of the exam, you will immediately be informed of the results. A maximum of 3.5 hours is allowed to complete each exam.
